Rosh Hashanah 5779/2018

This year we are delighted to be welcoming Rabbi Danny Newman to lead Services and learning sessions for the duration of the High Holy Day period. Rabbi Danny is the founder and director of Hamakom, an organisation that brings Jewish teachings and practices related to mindfulness, wellbeing and spirituality to the wider community.

Erev Rosh Hashanah (Evening Service) – Sunday 9th September at 7:30pm Rosh Hashanah Morning Service – Monday 10th September at 10:00am
Followed by lunch (Booking by 28th August essential)
And at 2pm – A Session led by Rabbi Danny, “Can we be joyful on the Day of Judgement?”
We will look at how the Talmud describes Rosh Hashanah as the Day of Judgement and explore how we might be able to approach such a day with excitement and joy.

Rosh Hashanah Services will take place at the Kenwood Hall Hotel, in the Terrace Room, Kenwood Road, Sheffield, S7 1NQ. The hotel is a short walk from the No.4 bus stop on Psalter lane.

Please note, there will be a room for children to go to if they want a break during the Service. Please note, children must be supervised at all times.

Yom Kippur 5779

Fast Times: the Fast begins on Tuesday 18th September at 6:57pm and ends on Wednesday 19th September at 7:54pm.

Kol Nidre – Tuesday 18th September at 7:30pm
Yom Kippur – All Day – Wednesday 19th September from 10:30am
Afternoon Study Session with Rabbi Danny –
“Adventures in the book of Jonah”
What is the book of Jonah really about and why do we read it on Yom Kippur?

Additional Service (Musaf) 2:15pm
Study Session 4:15pm
Memorial Service (Yizkor) 6:15pm
Concluding Service (Neilah) 7:00

There will be a break the fast meal at the end of the Fast. You must book and pay for this by 28th August.

Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur Services will be at the Double Tree Hotel, Chesterfield Road S, Sheffield, S8 8BW. The Doubletree is a bit furthur out of town but is well served by buses from the interchange. Please us the South Yorkshire Travel journey planner for guidance.
